Fall ’23 ORC Week 7-Shelf Styling!

It’s time to load up the shelves! The laundry room is (mostly) done and ready for everything! In case you missed it, I spent the last couple of months renovating our laundry room which doubles as a pantry. I built custom floating shelves and did a faux white oak finish using a paint wash technique which you can read about in this post.

Next, I wallpapered the entire room, ceiling and all, even covered the washer and dryer! This week I added back in one of the original custom shelves we made that fits right behind the washer and dryer to give us even more storage space. I planed it with my new planer and refinished it to match the other two floating shelves. Once that was in, it was time to go shopping for some storage solutions that would look nice and also be functional.

Here is everything that I found! I got glass jars with lids for dry goods, baskets for other things and storage solutions for garbage bags, laundry soap, dryer balls and everything else that needed to be contained.

I recently switched to a natural laundry detergent which I really like! I also started using wool dryer balls for the first time. I like to put a few drops of lavender essential oil on them before popping them into the dryer.

I filled these jars with dry goods I had in the cupboards (rice, almond flour, and whole wheat flour). They look so much nicer in the jars! I’ll make labels for them with my Cricut soon, don’t worry! In the mean time, I’ll have to remember which is which.

I filled the smaller jars with spices we buy in bulk like cayenne, onion flakes, Himalayan pink salt crystals and red pepper flakes.

I also found these woven baskets with leather handles that are great for other pantry items that I may not want to look at. They come in several different sizes too!

I also really love this rustic wire basket I used for the dryer balls. It also comes in several different sizes and adds an interesting metal element to the shelves.

That is pretty much it! Didn’t take long to fill up the shelves. I did go back and get a couple more woven baskets since I had a bit more room on the top shelf. Oh, almost forgot to mention I added motion sensor lights too!

The next step is to make labels for the jars and then I will be building a cabinet to hold the garbage bins so stay tuned for that! I’ve linked everything that I can below. If there is something you can’t find, let me know!

Until next week, happy DIY-ing!
