I love the ritual of having a hot cup of coffee every morning. When I don’t want coffee, I know something is wrong. Often when I’m sick, coffee does not sound appealing at all. Usually I stick with tea and soup but since it’s so hot out right now, hot beverages don’t sound good either. What did end up hitting the spot were these iced matcha lattes! I like them so much in fact, I’ve had one every day since! It’s a great mid morning or early afternoon pick me up and a refreshing alternative to iced coffee. Plus look how pretty they look!
I tried a few different variations and finally settled on this as my favorite combination.
Here is the recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 2 scoops of stevia powder (or your favorite sweetener)
- Unsweetened almond milk
- Heavy cream (optional)
- Ice cubes
SUPPLIES:
- Hot water kettle
- Matcha kit (strainer, bamboo whisk, wooden spoon/scoop, whisk holder, bowl with spout)
- Silicone measuring cup
- Immersion blender
- Drink cup
- Metal reusable straw
DIRECTIONS:
STEP 1: Heat water to 170 degrees. Take 1 scoop matcha powder and sift through the strainer.
STEP 2: Add 100ml hot water and stir slowly with the bamboo whisk. Add stevia or other sweetener to taste.
STEP 3: In a silicone measuring cup, add 50ml heavy cream, 250ml almond milk and 5 ice cubes. Add matcha and blend with an immersion blender.
STEP 4: Add 5 more ice cubes to a cup and pour over the top.
Add a straw and enjoy!
I have been able to order an Iced Matcha Latte from Starbucks that tastes very similar, but they are also expensive (like $6)! Way cheaper to make at home, but if you find yourself out and about and want to treat yourself, here is what I order from Starbucks:
Venti iced matcha latte with no syrup, light ice, almond milk and 1 stevia.
Have a favorite coffee alternative drink? I’d love to hear it! Try my matcha latte recipe? Let me know what you think!
Until next week!
