You guys!!! I did it! We did it! YOU did it!
Thanks to all of your votes, I’m taking home a Reelies Award! I can’t believe it!
I am so incredibly grateful to you all for voting, this award really means a lot to me. It’s nice to have some validation and social proof for what we do as creators. Social media can be a very lonely place but it’s events like these where you get to meet other people IRL doing the same thing that can really make a difference.
It’s funny, on the day of the event, I was in my hotel room getting ready and a thought popped into my head. Years ago, back in 2016, I wrote down 100 things that I wanted to accomplish in my life, a bucket list of sorts. It was a challenging exercise and I wrote everything in the past tense as if it had already happened. I’m not kidding when I tell you that on that list, I wrote “accept an award on stage”. In fact, I found the notebook so I could cross it off the list and took a picture!
There it is, #82 on the list and I was able to check it off almost exactly 9 years later to the day! Incredible!
If you haven’t done this exercise, I highly recommend it. I believe the exercise came from the book, “A Happy Pocket Full of Money“.
I’m big into goal setting, which I do every year, but this list is different. This is like a bucket list of all the wildest things you could ever dream of doing in your lifetime. I divided it into categories: travel, experiences, accomplishments, possessions, financial, family/relationships and personal/health. If you think of your life and the things you would like to look back on and say you’ve done, these 7 pillars are a helpful way to categorize everything.
Ok, now back to The Reelies! It was in Atlanta, Georgia and we all stayed at this really cute boutique hotel right down the street from the venue.
They really went all out with the event complete with the red carpet, photographers and everything! I felt like a movie star, it was so much fun!
There were many different categories, I was a finalist in four of them! You can see them all here on my previous post.
I won the award for “Best Use Of A Song” for my reel titled, “An Ode To All The Things I’ve Painted Black” with the french version of the song, “Paint It Black”. You can watch it HERE on Instagram.
The awards themselves are really cool too! It’s a solid piece of glass and my name is etched right on it! I’m definitely going to proudly display this one!
I got lots of compliments on my dress and my hair (in addition to my award winning content). I literally watched a YouTube video hair tutorial a couple hours before the event! I tried to get a photo of it.
And like the content creator that I am, I took approximately one photo at the after party. I was so focused on meeting people and being in the moment that I didn’t have my phone anywhere near me.
I did manage to dance until my shoes literally fell apart. Why does this keep happening to me? I’ve had this happen to at least 6 pairs of shoes since I’ve lived in Florida. The glue just decides to stop being glue! These are the shoes I wore for my wedding too! Oh well, it was worth it. Plus I can fix them with THIS.
That’s the big news for this week! Thank you for being here and thank you for your support. I couldn’t do any of this without you!
Until next time, happy DIY-ing!
xoxo,
Selene
