The Fall One Room Challenge has officially begun! I had so much fun doing my first ORC last spring when I did our guest bathroom, I decided to sign up again. The ORC was also the impetus for starting this blog and my goal was to continue posting even after it was over, and I’m happy to say that I’ve kept it up. If you missed the last ORC or want to check out any of my other projects, feel free to take a look back. A lot has happened in the last 6 months!
Ok, let’s get on with it. The room I’m tackling for the Fall ORC is our home office/guest room/library/DIY storage closet. There’s a lot going on here and none of it is being done well. The room is currently a nightmare and not serving any of these purposes like it could. So we’re about to change all that. I’ve got BIG plans for this space and hopefully I’m not overly ambitious with how much I think I can do because it’s a lot!
Here’s the vibe I’m going for. What do you think?

Alright. Here’s the plan…
- Empty the room and closet. Demo closet doorway and open up the space.
- Remove damaged tile floor and install new flooring.
- Repair drywall in the closet. This is where the leak originated last year and is the last room to be repaired.
- DIY Roman Clay paint on all the bedroom walls.
- Design, build and install built-in desk, cabinets and bookshelves.
- Install ceiling treatment and lighting.
- Design and build a day bed that folds out into a full queen bed for guests.
- Make the closet an organized DIY storage space for all of my tools. This part will probably be after the ORC if I’m being realistic but we’ll see!
Short list, right? I can totally do this in 8 weeks, right? Oh, did I mention that I’m not done with my current project remodeling a friend’s bathroom? Yep. I’m doing two really big projects at once in addition to working my FT job. But, I know what I signed up for and I’m ready to get started. Follow along for the next 8 weeks and see where this room ends up. I know for a fact it’s going to be better than it was! Progress will be made.
Be sure to check out all the other guest participants and their ORC projects on the blog which is linked here: https://www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog
