ORC Week 7- New Floors

This week was all about getting the flooring in and mapping out the footprint for the built ins.

I removed the tile floor and scraped up all the adhesive with a hammer drill. It was a lot of work, but the concrete subfloor is nice and smooth now and ready for new flooring.

I installed the base for the built ins first so that the floating LVP flooring will go around it. The base is very simple, built from 2×4’s and secured to the wall studs.

The LVP flooring is very easy to install and can be done quickly. This particular LVP had to be cut with a saw ( used a miter saw and jig saw) although there are some types that can be cut just with a utility knife! With the type of LVP I used, it has a cork backing and is fairly thick (6.5mm) so you do not need underlayment but I would suggest it if your subfloor is not perfectly smooth or you need an extra vapor barrier. If I were to do this again, I would add underlayment.

All of the full planks are in and all that is left are these difficult cuts. I did these with the jigsaw since they needed to be cut lengthwise and notched at the ends.

Last few pieces to install in the closet and we’re all done!

The flooring is in and looks great! I absolutely LOVE the color and the warmth it brings to the room. It complements the green Roman Clay walls perfectly!

I used NuCore Luxury Plank Vinyl that I purchased at Floor & Decor. The color is called “Butter Toast” and costs $4.29 per square foot. 1 box covers 17.87 sq. ft and costs $76.66 per box. I purchased 8 boxes which covered the room and the closet totaling just under 130 sq. ft and I had a little left over.

Now that the floors are done, it’s on to the built ins!
