Spring ’24 ORC Week 8- Kitchen Renovation Reveal!

We did it! The kitchen is done (for now) after having spent the last 8 weeks updating it by painting the floors, painting the upper and lower cabinets and adding new soft close door hinges and cabinet door hardware. This was a budget friendly makeover and a very doable project for beginner DIYers! With some time, patience and the right tools and materials, you can give your kitchen a makeover too! Our kitchen was new when we bought the house, the only problem was that I didn’t like any of the materials used. From the fake cherry wood cabinets, to the granite countertops and beige micro subway tile backsplash and the silver fixtures, nothing went together! After living with it the way it was for years, I was finally ready to make a change. I will admit I was a bit intimidated by the scope of this project and I was really worried that it wouldn’t look professional, but all my fears were quelled after it was complete. It looks even better than I hoped it would and I’m so happy with how it turned out!

A reminder of where we started! The kitchen was dark and uncoordinated, and the floors always looked dirty no matter how much I cleaned them.

Before

After!

It’s bright and clean now. I can’t say that I love the countertops any more, but it’s an improvement for sure. Some day I might change the countertops and the backsplash, but for now I’m happy with it!

After

I love the new Kohler faucet! It’s beautiful and functional! It has a pulldown sprayer and an optional baseplate and soap dispenser that we chose not to install.

My favorite part might just be this brass rail with hooks to hold coffee cups! I’ve been wanting one of these for so long but wanted to wait until the kitchen was finished to put one in and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! It’s like adding jewelry to an outfit! This was another very easy DIY that you can do! Here’s a link for this beautiful brass rail.

Also this little rechargable electric candle lighter is one of my most popular finds!

I reorganized all of the cabinets after painting and I moved our glassware to a new spot and I absolutely love how it looks now. Everything is easy to find and I can reach everything. I bought these new champagne coupes that I found from IKEA. If you don’t have an IKEA near you, I found very similar ones on Amazon.

The grey cappuccino cups are from Nespresso and the blue espresso cups were a gift years ago and I have no idea where they came from. The vase was thrifted and I spray painted it to look like ceramic!

These pretty gold drawer pulls were very budget friendly!

The salt cellar and spoon rest I found at Target.

Traded in my copper spray painted basket that was old and peeling for a shiny new gold one from Target!

These anti fatigue mats not only protect the floors a little bit but provide a nice squishy surface to stand on while cooking. They’re easy to clean and come in several different colors and patterns. It came as a set of two which is nice!

These kitchen towels I found at Target were actually the first thing I bought before I even started the renovation! The colors were my inspo for the floors and lower cabinets.

I love this diatomaceous earth quick drying sponge holder and stone dish drying mat. They dry very quickly!

Highly recommend adding these little rubber stoppers to you cabinet doors and drawers if they don’t have them already. Before I painted everything, I scraped off the foams ones that were already there and replaced them with these which are way nicer. They help dampen the sound when they close and protect the paint too!

I love organizing things! This little caddy is a lazy susan and has dividers to separate things. I think it’s meant for beauty products but it works great for my hydration sticks that I keep in the kitchen cabinet.

I love coffee but I’m also a tea drinker and like these tea bag organizers.

And this one is great for storing vitamins and supplements. It spins to make things easy to find.

If you were only going to buy one cookbook, I highly recommend The Joy of Cooking! This is a classic cookbook and our go-to for literally everything and it never disappoints! I made this cookbook holder and you can too! I have build plans available and you can paint or stain it any color you like.

I try to use only non-toxic, natural cleaning products in the house and this is by far my favorite. You can literally clean everything with it and it smells sooooo good! Try Thieves all natural cleaner!

More organizational things that make me happy! Bamboo boxes for all the different size ziplock bags. They fit right in the drawer and are labeled by size.

This fly catcher is helpful to keep your kitchen free of gnats, fruit flys and other flying insects and it’s perfectly safe with no chemicals.

That’s it! The kitchen is done and it’s time to start the next project which is already in the works! It’s going to be a good one! Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss it!

Until next time, happy DIY-ing!
