It’s my favorite time of year! I absolutely love Halloween and Spooky Season! It kicks off the holiday season in the best possible way. Devin, my husband, also loves Halloween and really gets into decorating the exterior of the house. He lives for scaring trick-or-treaters!

This year, he’s still in charge of the outdoor decorations but I agreed to take the lead for the indoor decor which is much more fun for me. Together we’ll get the house looking good inside and out! We usually host a Halloween costume party every year too so we really do it up. I’ll be posting all of my Halloween craft projects and shopping finds so be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss anything.

First up is these easy DIY dripping candles that are made out of pool noodles from the dollar store! You can also watch the full tutorial on YouTube!

Here’s what you will need…

STEP 1:

Cut the pool noodles to different lengths. Think about how you’ll be arranging them and how many you want to make. We just made one, but I think we might have to make a couple more since it came out so good and it was cheap and easy to make!

STEP 2:

Trace the tea light on the top ends of each of the pool noodles and carve it out with a utility knife. The goal is that the tea light sits flush with the top of the noodle and is tight enough to hold it in place. Cut it just a bit smaller than the light since the foam is squishy and you can press the lights into it pretty easily. Remember you can always cut it bigger if you need to!

STEP 3:

Using the hot glue gun, go around the top edge of the pool noodles and make “drips” going down from the top. If you have a glue gun that gets really hot, it will melt the pool noodles a little bit, but to be honest, it makes them look even more realistic so just go with it!

STEP 4:

Once you get enough drippy glue wax and you’re satisfied with how it looks, glue the arrangement together. Tie a piece of string or ribbon around it while it dries.

STEP 5:

Tape off the lights on the tea lights so you can spray paint the bases. Spray paint the pool noodles and the candles with matte black spray paint. If you’re going to be displaying it outside, I recommend spraying it with some type of sealant as well. We didn’t do this since they will only be outside sporadically.

STEP 6:

Once the paint is dry, peel off the painters tape around the lights, turn them on and stick them into the top of the pool noodles! Admire your creation! These look great on the ground or you can display them on a pedestal. Don’t forget to turn out the lights!
