It’s been exactly one month since I left my full time job to pursue, well, this! What exactly “this” is, I’m not totally sure yet, but I’m excited to see where it leads.
Backstory: over the last year, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends working two jobs leaving very little time for anything else. It was unhealthy, unsustainable, and I was unhappy. So I made a change. A big change. I left a job I love, a career I had chosen and was passionate about but was leaving me with little time for myself. I was way out of balance. I am my best self when I have plenty of time. And time is what I did not have. As I get older, I realize how important having time is. It’s the only non-renewable resource. You can always make more money, buy more things, but you can’t get back your time. So choose how you spend your time wisely! What do I want time for? I want time to think, time to read, time to workout, time to play, time to be creative, time to learn new things, time for new experiences, and time to spend with my partner, our dogs, our family and our friends. This is what freeing up time allows me to do. This.
Over the past year, I’ve developed a passion for DIY, design, home improvement, building things and fixing up our house. I’ve acquired and learned to use some power tools, and with the help of my partner and LOTS of YouTube videos, we’ve managed to do some pretty awesome things. We gutted and renovated our bathroom, built a custom closet, made a sliding barn door, installed picture frame moulding, built a console table and painted the entire house.
But I didn’t start with these big projects. It all started with a chair. A chair that Devin found on the side of the road, that he thought I would like to fix up. So I did! I deconstructed it, sanded it, painted it, reupholstered it and now I love it. That was the beginning of my obsession for DIY, flipping furniture, home improvement projects and renovating our house. It all started with a chair that someone was throwing away. That was the catalyst. So thank you to whoever threw away this chair, thank you to Devin for bringing it home. I owe this chair some gratitude. So, thank you, chair. And you’re welcome to having renewed life.
We both have renewed life!
